German scientists study genetically modified vaccine fruit

German scientists are trying to use genetically modified technology to produce fruits that can produce their own vaccines. By eating them, they can achieve the same effect as vaccination. In this way, “inoculation” is cheap, easy to popularize, and is expected to benefit more people. University of Würzburg University scientist Heribat Vazcha is currently conducting research in this area. Vazach said that although no mature varieties of "vaccine fruit" have yet been cultivated, related research has yielded certain results. For example, scientists have developed potatoes and tomatoes that can produce hepatitis antibodies, animal experiments and humans. Clinical trials have shown that eating such potatoes or tomatoes will elicit certain immune responses in the body. Scientists did not specifically disclose the method of cultivating these “vaccinal fruits”, but pointed out that there are still some difficulties in the existing research. For example, humans currently have limited understanding of the genetic makeup of various plants, and thus are limited in the selection of target fruit varieties; How to regulate the amount of vaccine material produced in fruits and how to mark the amount of food consumption are not difficult problems. However, they said that once the research finally succeeds, "it will revolutionize vaccine production and vaccination."
