Chinese Academy of Sciences experts invented citrus preservatives authorized by the US patent

Recently, Duan Xuewu and Jiang Yueming, researchers of the South China Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, have obtained the US patent license for the application of “polyhexamethylene hydrazine hydrochloride in the prevention and treatment of citrus acid rot and its preservative”. It is reported that the citrus preservative of the invention can obviously inhibit the rot of citrus fruits such as sugar orange during storage, especially the occurrence of acid rot.

The citrus postharvest breathing metabolism is strong, leading to a rapid decline in nutrition and flavor quality. At present, the most effective way to control the disease of sugar orange fruit is low temperature storage combined with chemical fungicide treatment, but the control effect on decay, especially acid rot, is still not ideal.

The invention discloses an application of polyhexamethylene hydrazine hydrochloride for controlling citrus acid rot and a preservative thereof. The sugar orange fruit was treated with it, and the incidence of acid rot was less than 10% after storage for 45 days at room temperature, while the control group was as high as 60%.
