FIZZO cuts into the sports health market with high-precision heart rate monitoring technology

Because the monitoring accuracy is not high, the sports heart rate bracelet eventually has a tendency to become a "chicken rib".

But behind the "chicken rib bracelet" is still facing the tens of billions of markets, a high-precision sports bracelet, in the field of high-intensity fitness training, sports management and sports rehabilitation is still very much needed. According to relevant reports, in the first half of 2016, the number of card users in the domestic gym reached 15 million, and the fitness population in the next five years is expected to exceed 50 million. The running app and riding users are over 100 million, and the population of China's post-80s or above accounts for more than 67%. The overall market space waiting for release is still not small.

The measurement of exercise heart rate is still generally based on photoelectric measurement. The terminology is called photo plethysmography (PPG), and the heart rate data of the human body is calculated by combining algorithm technology. The millet bracelet and Apple watch are common in the domestic market, and the internationally accurate ones have Polar and Mio heart rate monitoring technology. The recent 36-inch contact with FIZZO is believed to reach or exceed the levels of the former two in heart rate monitoring technology.

FIZZO still uses the traditional photoelectric measurement method, but the photoelectric sensor module and algorithm have been innovated, which makes the overall anti-interference more powerful, and improves the heart rate accuracy of the optical heart rate device. According to founder Cheng Xiaowei, biomedical-grade technology, combined with patented algorithms, achieves higher accuracy in heart rate testing.

FIZZO enhances the level of dynamic monitoring and algorithmic techniques that combine human motion scenes. In the past, heart rate monitoring was acceptable at 160bmp, but in the higher-intensity aerobic interval, the accuracy of heart rate monitoring was significantly different (see the middle of the figure above). This kind of static heart rate technology is not accurate when the user's wristband is not properly worn or the wristband is shaken. The latter algorithm, due to lack of testing and different scenarios, makes the overall monitoring data output also show a large error.

Founder Cheng Xiaowei is the former Director of Business Development for Texas Instruments Semiconductor (TI) China, and was previously responsible for Motorola Semiconductor's Asia Pacific business. The Texas Instruments semiconductor layer served as a supplier of heart rate monitoring technology for Huawei Xiaomi, and Cheng Xiaowei was involved. But in his view, the really good exercise heart rate technology still needs to have stronger anti-interference ability and algorithm innovation. In 2015, Cheng Xiaowei was introduced to the team of biomedical computer science in the background of Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiaotong University. After 22 months of research and development, the technology was obtained. Currently, the first generation of FIZZO bracelets are undergoing testing.
