Disinfection of vegetable soil with lime "two bogeys"

In recent years, the occurrence of soil-borne diseases has been severe, and the death of trees has frequently occurred. Lime treatment of the soil can kill bacteria in the soil, improve soil pH, and prevent soil-borne diseases. Such as lime can reduce tomato blight, cabbage root disease and so on. However, if the application method is improper, not only will it not achieve a bactericidal effect, but it will cause poor growth of vegetables. In this regard, we remind farmers that when using lime to disinfect vegetable soil, we must pay attention to the following “two bogeys”.

One avoids mixing lime with fermented and decomposed manure. Lime is alkaline, and it reacts with humic acid in the fertilizer when it is mixed with fermentation-composted manure, not only reducing the application effect of fertilizer, but also weakening the bactericidal effect of lime. The correct approach is to first dip lime into the soil and apply manure at intervals of 3-4 days. This will reduce the contact between lime and manure and prevent the reduction of bactericidal effect and fertilizer efficiency.

Second, avoid excessive application of lime. Some farmers only know that lime has a bactericidal effect, but do not know how much to apply, so to achieve the bactericidal effect, the amount of application is too large, and some even more than 500 kilograms per acre, resulting in excessively alkaline soil, making some Nutrients such as phosphorus, zinc, magnesium, iron, and boron, which are easily absorbed by vegetables under neutral and acidic conditions, are fixed, affecting the absorption of these nutrients by vegetable roots, resulting in poor vegetable growth and whitening at growing points. phenomenon. The vegetable farmer should first measure the pH of the soil when applying lime disinfectant. If the pH of the soil exceeds 7.5, then it can no longer be disinfected with lime; if the soil pH is less than 7, the vegetable grower may not exceed 200 kg per mu. The amount of application to prevent the soil pH is too high, affecting the absorption of mineral elements in the root system.
