Tetanus, also known as hyperthyroidism, is an acute, traumatic, and toxic infectious disease of people and livestock. 1. Etiology and illness Infection Tetanus is caused by Clostridium perfringens (C. tetani). The bacterium is an anaerobic bacillus. Generally, the disinfecting drugs can kill it in a short time, but the spores have great resistance and can survive in the soil surface for several years. The disease is usually caused by wound infection with Clostridium tetani spores, most of the lambs are infected from the umbilical cord. 2. Symptoms Symptoms are not obvious at the beginning of the illness and often do not stand upright after lying down, or do not lie freely when standing, walking unstable, followed by stiff limbs and abnormal gait. The body was full of paroxysmal spasm, with head and neck bent on one side, and the tail standing upright. Due to the tetanic contraction of the masseter muscles of the face, the jaws are tightly closed, spitting, and not eating. In the course of the disease, acute gut catarrh often occurs, causing severe diarrhea. 3. Prevention (1) Prevent injuries. In the event of a trauma, disinfect with 2% potassium permanganate or 7% iodine. (2) Inject tetanus toxoid regularly every year. (3) Tetanus antitoxin can be applied early in the disease, and the dosage is 200,000-800,000 international units, once or 2 or 3 injections. (4) intravenous injection of 25% magnesium sulfate 40-60 ml, while intramuscular injection of green, streptomycin each 1 million 2 million international units, 2 times a day, once every 3-5 days, can play a certain therapeutic effect.
